D60 Crochet

Skully Bookmark

Yarn: Purl Soho, Cotton Chirp Dk, or any size #3 dk cotton yarn.

Materials: US Size D/3 (3.25 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, tape measure

Size: 13” (5.11 cm) – each skull 2” (0.78 cm) x 2” (0.78 cm) and length of cord is 9” (3.54 cm)

Gauge: 23 sts per inch

Abbreviations and Stitches (U.S. Terms): beg – beginning, ch – chain, dc – double crochet, rep – repeat, sc – single crochet, sl st – slip stitch, st(s) – stitch(es)

Notes: Ch 3 counts as a stitch, you can make the skulls larger by using a larger crochet hook and make the cord longer by chaining more than 50 (ch 50 = 9” (22.86 cm)) long.

INSTRUCTIONS: (Skull-Make 2)

Make a magic circle

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 9 dc in the circle, ch 5, dc in the circle, ch 3, dc in the circle, ch 5, sl st into the 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (12 dc, 2 ch-5 sps, 1 ch-3 sp)

Rnd 2: Sc in the next 9 sts, 6 sc in the ch-5 sp, (sl st, 4 dc, sl st) in the ch-3 sp, 6 sc in the next ch-5 sp, join to beg sc, fasten off. (21 sc, 2 sl st, 4 dc)

Making Bookmark:

Join yarn to the center st at the top of one skull, ch 50, join to the center stitch at the top of the 2nd skull, turn, sl st into each ch to the 1st skull, fasten off, weave in ends.

For best results block each skull. (The skulls in the photo were done in cotton yarn, so they were blocked with an iron on the steam setting)
