D60 Crochet

Holiday Mandala

Yarn: Paintbox Cotton Dk Yarn 50g/1.7 oz/125m/137yd. Four different colors were used for each Mandala. Or any size 3 cotton yarn.

Materials: US Size E/4 (3.5 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, tape measure

Size: 9” (22.86 cm) round

Gauge: 22 sts x 30 rows = 4” (10.16 cm)

Abbreviations and Stitches (U.S. Terms): beg – beginning, ch – chain, dc – double crochet, hdc – half double crochet, rep – repeat, sc – single crochet, sk – skip, sp – space, st(s) – stitch(es)

Special Stitches: Beg dc3tog in ch sp, ch 3, yarn over, insert hook into ch space, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, insert hook into same space, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through 3 loops.

Dc3tog in ch sp: yarn over, insert hook into ch space, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, insert hook into same space, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, insert hook into same space, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through 4 loops.

Notes: Pattern is written in U.S. Terms. Ch-3 counts as a stitch.

Mandala may puff in the center as you crochet but will flatten out after being blocked. (the Mandalas in the photo were steamed blocked with an iron)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Make a magic circle

Rnd 1: Ch 4 (counts as a dc and ch-1), * dc in the ring, ch 1; rep from * 6 more times, join to beg ch-4, fasten off. (8 dc, 8 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 2: Join yarn to any ch-1 sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 1, *2 dc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (16 dc, 8 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 3: Join yarn to any ch-1 sp, (beg dc3tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in the same sp as join, ch 2, *(dc3tog, ch 2, dc3tog) I the next ch-1 sp, ch 2; rep from * around, join to beg dc3tog, fasten off. (16 dc3tog, 16 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 4: Join yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp as join, * 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (48 dc)

Rnd 5: Join yarn to any sp between 3dc group, sc in same sp as join, ch 3 *sc in the next sp between 3dc group, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off.  (16 ch-3 sps, 16 sc)

Rnd 6: Join yarn to the center of any sc, sc in same sp as join, ch 3 *sc in the center of the next sc, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off.  (16 ch-3 sps, 16 sc)

Rnd 7: Join yarn to the center of any sc, sc in same sp as join, ch 3 *sc in the center of the next sc, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off.  (16 ch-3 sps, 16 sc)

Rnd 8: Join yarn to the center of any sc, sc in same sp as join, ch 4 *sc in the center of the next sc, ch 4; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off.  (16 ch-4 sps, 16 sc)

Rnd 9: Join yarn to any ch-4 sp, (beg dc3tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in the same sp as join, ch 2, *(dc3tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in the next ch-4 sp, ch 2; rep from * around, join to beg dc3tog, fasten off. (32 dc3tog, 32 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 10: Join yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp as join, * 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (96 dc)

Rnd 11: Join yarn to any sp between 3dc group, sc in same sp as join, ch 3 *sc in the next sp between 3dc group, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off.  (32 ch-3 sps, 32 sc)

Rnd 12: Join yarn to the center of any sc, sc in same sp as join, ch 3 *sc in the center of the next sc, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off.  (32 ch-3 sps, 32 sc)

Rnd 13: Join yarn to the center of any sc, sc in same sp as join, ch 4 *sc in the center of the next sc, ch 4; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off.  (32 ch-4 sps, 32 sc)

Rnd 14: Join yarn to the center of any sc, sc in same sp as join, ch 4 *sc in the center of the next sc, ch 4; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off.  (32 ch-4 sps, 32 sc)

Rnd 15: Join yarn to any ch-4 sp, ch 2, 2 hdc, ch 2, 3 hdc, in the same sp as join, *(3 hdc, ch 2, 3 hdc) in the next ch-4 sp; rep from * around, join to beg ch-2, fasten off. (192 hdc, 32 ch-2 sps)

Weave in ends and for best results block.
