Granny Square and a Half
Yarn: Madlandia, Hue-Mongous 100% cotton yarn dk size 3 yarn. the colors used are: #1001 Babble fish, #1013 Wrong Lever, # 1020 Sharntastic, #1010 Razzmatazz,
Materials: US Size G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors.
Size: Square is 5” (12.7 cm) x 5” (12.7 cm) Half Square or triangle is 6 1/2” (16.5 cm) x 3 1/2” (8.9 cm)
Abbreviations and Stitches (U.S. Terms): ch(s) – chain(s), dc – double crochet, sc- single crochet, sk – skip, sl st – slip stitch, sp – space, st(s) – stitch(es)
Gauge: Yarn gauge: 15 sts x 18 rows = 4” (10.16 cm)
Notes: Ch-3 counts as a stitch,
This pattern is for a 5-round granny square and 5-round half granny square, you can make either one larger by increasing the number of rounds.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Granny Square
Make a magic circle
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1 in the circle, * 3 dc, ch 1, repeat from * two more times, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off. (4 dc clusters, 4 ch-1 sps).
Rnd 2: Join new yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same sp, (corner made), * ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next space, repeat from * two more times, ch 1, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off. (8 dc clusters, 4 ch-2 sps, 4 ch-1 sps).
Rnd 3: Join new yarn to any ch-2 corner sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same sp, * ch 1, 3 dc, in the next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the ch 2 corner sp, repeat from * around, ch 1, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off. (12 dc clusters, 4 ch-2 sps, 8 ch-1 sps).
Rnd 4: Join new yarn to any ch-2 corner sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same sp, (ch 1, 3 dc, in the next ch 1 sp, ch 1) 2 times, * 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the ch 2 corner sp, (ch 1, 3 dc, in the next ch 1 sp, ch 1) 2 times, repeat from * around, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off. (16 dc clusters, 4 ch-2 sps, 12 ch- 1 sps).
Rnd 5: Join new yarn to any ch-2 corner sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same sp, (ch 1, 3 dc, in the next ch 1 sp, ch 1) 3 times, * 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the ch 2 corner sp, (ch 1, 3 dc, in the next ch 1 sp, ch 1) 3 times, repeat from * around, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off. (20 dc clusters, 4 ch-2 sps, 16 ch- 1 sps
Weave in ends and block each square
Half Granny Square (Granny Triangle)
Make a magic circle
Rnd 1: Ch 4 (counts and dc and ch-1), 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1, dc, in circle, fasten off, close circle. (8 dc, 2 ch-1 sps, 1 ch-2 sp)
Rnd 2: Join a new yarn into the 3rd ch of beg ch-4, ch 4, 3 dc in the ch-1 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the ch-2 sp, 3 dc in the ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in the last dc, fasten off. (14 dc, 1 ch-2 sp)
Rnd 3: Join a new yarn into the 3rd ch of beg ch 4, ch 4, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, 3 dc in the next sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch-2 sp, 3 dc in the next sp, 3 dc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in top of last dc, fasten off. (20 dc, 2 ch-1 sps, 1 ch -2 sp)
Rnd 4: Join a new yarn into the 3rd ch of beg ch 4, ch 4, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, (3 dc in the next sp) 2 times, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch-2 sp, (3 dc in the next sp) 2 times, 3 dc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in top of last dc, fasten off. (26 dc, 2 ch-1 sps, 1 ch -2 sp)
Rnd 5: Join a new yarn into the 3rd ch of beg ch 4, ch 4, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, (3 dc in the next sp) 3 times, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch-2 sp, (3 dc in the next sp) 3 times, 3 dc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in top of last dc, fasten off. (32 dc, 2 ch-1 sps, 1 ch -2 sp)
Weave in ends and for best results block.
